The University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) established in 1991 as the first Private University of Bangladesh soon before the Private University Act came into force in 1992.USTC is located at near Foy’s Lake, Chittagong, the commercial capital of Bangladesh. The founder of USTC is the eminent physician of the Indian Sub-Continent Late National Professor Dr. Nurul Islam. The primary objectives of establishing USTC are to improve the quality and standard of education in science and technology with special emphasis on medical, pharmaceutical, engineering and social sciences. It also aims at developing human resources at home and aboard with special emphasis on the South and South-East Asia. USTC has been playing an active and exemplary role in providing high-quality medical, pharmaceutical, business, engineering and technological education and equipping students with the expertise to address both local and global challenges. The University has achieved remarkable success and continues to foster its future with dynamic initiatives with modern curriculum, research activities, student engagement, professional training, faculty development, international collaborations, a state-of-the-art campus building, and university-industry collaboration towards Fourth Industrial Revolution. It is a matter of great pride and privilege for me as Vice Chancellor to be part of USTC that prepares today’s students to meet the challenges of the industry. I have seen the way USTC has become pioneer in providing superior quality education in Bangladesh and has also been engaged to extend these efforts to South and South-East Asia. This has become possible with the untiring efforts of our teaching faculty which imparts teaching by relating it with real life scenarios and current developments in their respective fields. The course curriculum is devised based on the ever changing needs of industry so that students are absorbed in industry smoothly and shine as proud alumni of USTC. For students to compete internationally and become a part of world top companies they need to be creative and innovative and USTC cultivate students right attitude with blend of extra-ordinary soft skills and hence make their personality impressive so that they become brand ambassadors of not only USTC but also the companies with which they get associated. USTC are expanding its global network of partner collaborative universities that span leading and QS ranked universities in Asia, America, Europe and Australia. It is creditable that the USTC has shaped a contemporary system to make it conceivable for staff and students to appraise their skills and talent in numerous areas like arts, social sciences, medical and technical disciplines because of rapid evolving developments in modern era. As Vice Chancellor of USTC, I am deeply committed to attracting brilliant teachers and students dedicated to academic excellence, STARTUPs to innovation and applied research to application. USTC also focus on professional development of students in order to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to play a leading role in different sectors of the industry through University-Industry Collaboration to become a JOB READY UNIVERSAL GRADUATE. The University's programs for faculty development ensure a dynamic and futuristic environment for teaching and research through international collaboration.As Vice Chancellor of USTC, I am confident that efforts to excel in the field of higher education and the inculcation of moral values in the students at the USTC Campus will continue in future with a greater zeal. I am delighted to be a part of USTC at this exciting moment to work with our teachers, staff at USTC and alumni of USTC around the world. On 16 June 2019 I have framed a slogan for all of us “LOVE USTC”. I, therefore, call all teachers, staffs, students and alumni of USTC to be part of this revolution and become the stars of tomorrow.

Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Jahangir Alam was born in the village of Mohammadpur under Chandanaish Upazilla, Chittagong. His father Late Monir Ahmed was a Freedom Fighter and mother Late Rashida Begum was a Home-Maker. Prof. Jahangir Alam married Roksana Mannan Lipi and is having one daughter and one son.
Prof. Jahangir did his SSC from Gasbaria NG High School in 1976 and HSC from Chittagong Govt. College in the year of 1978. He did his BSc Engineering in Civil Engineering from the then Chittagong Engineering College (presently CUET) under the University of Chittagong in 1982.
Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Jahangir Alam obtained his M. Engineering in structural Engineering & Ph.D. in Civil Engineering under the UNESCO Fellowship from Anna University, Madras, India. Dr. Alam did Advanced Studies on Finite Element at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) under AIT Fellowship. Dr. Alam completed Post Graduate Studies on Earthquake Engineering from University of St. Methodius in Macedonia under The Netherlands Fellowship.
Dr. Alam served as the Vice Chancellor of CUET for 4 years from 2012 to 2016 by the order of the honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. At present, Dr. Alam is a Professor of Civil Engineering at CUET. He has 34 years of teaching and professional experiences in Civil and Earthquake Engineering. Dr. Alam has published more than 50 journal and conference articles on Civil Engineering.
Dr. Alam is a Life Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), USA. He is also the member of the New York Academy of Sciences, USA. Dr. Alam has been serving as the Senate Member of Bangabhundu SMR Maritime University (BSMRMU) and Planning & Development Committee and Syndicate Member of Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET).
Dr. Alam is listed in WHO’s WHO in the World of Professionals in the year of 2001 in USA and is also listed in OUTSTANDING PEOPLE OF THE 21ST CENTURY and OUTSTANDING SCIENTIST IN THE 21ST CENTURY, 2001 in UK. Dr. Alam is awarded as 2018 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, USA and recently Dr. Alam’ Biography is listed in WHO’s WHO in the World 2018 & 2019, USA. Dr. Alam was awarded UNESCO Educational Achievement Award for Bangladesh in 2013. Dr. Alam served as the Academic Partner for German DAAD funded project SEAN-DEE for 8 years and the Netherlands funded NICHE project for 4 years to CUET, Bangladesh. Dr. Alam has published a book on Earthquake Resistant Non-engineered Building Construction: Seismic Risk Reduction: Physical Vulnerability and Structural Mitigation, LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing, Berlin, Germany, 2017. On 16 June 2019 Prof. Dr. Engr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam has joined as the Vice Chancellor of USTC by the Order of the Honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
